What is a moisturizer?
A moisturizer is a cosmetic preparation which is made to prevent dehydration and dryness on the skin. Moisturizers are enriched with a nutritional element which helps in keeping the skin healthy. In short, it helps in keeping the skin smooth and hydrated.
Why is moisturizing important?
Repairs the skin:
Pollution, stress, improper diet and lifestyle changes can dehydrate the skin. Your skin needs something extra to protect from the harm. Thus, moisturizer helps in repairing the skin and keeping it hydrated all the time.
Protects the skin:
Moisturizers have been considered to be one of the best ways to protect your skin from the sun damage. Moisturizer with SPF content in it helps in protecting from the harsh UV rays of the sun.
Helps in circulation:
Moisturizing help in the circulation of the blood to the body and helps in boosting the collagen levels. The decrease in collagen levels increases the chances of premature aging and sagging of the skin.
Which moisturizer should you use according to your skin type?
skin-type
There are endless number of moisturizers available in the drugstore to choose from. So, it becomes more difficult to choose a moisturizer that suits your skin the best. We are here to help you choose the perfect moisturizer for your skin type:
Normal skin:
This type of skin is neither too oily nor too dry. To keep the moisture intact, use a water based moisturizer which is light and has a non-greasy feeling.
Dry skin:
This skin type tends to have very less moisture in it so it is important to choose a moisturizer that restores the moisture in the skin. Women prone to dry skin should use oil-based moisturizers that contain moisturizing ingredients or petroleum based products. These ingredients create an occlusive layer on the skin that replaces water and helps retain it. These types of products will help in keeping your skin hydrated.
Oily Skin:
Oily skin is the most problematic type of skin. Treating combination skin is tricky because different areas call for different moisturizers. Acne and blemishes are the common problems of this type of skin. Use a light silicon-based moisturizer that will control the oil on your skin and give you a matte dry look. Avoid moisturizers that list cocoa butter, linseed, and peanut or sesame oil as their ingredients. Thus, use a light moisturizer that conditions the skin while keeping both the skin hydrated and oil levels balanced.
Combination skin:
If you have a combination skin use moisturizer only on dry areas and keep it away from oily areas of your face. A good moisturizer will help you balance out your skin. If you use stronger products on your oily areas, such as your T-zone, make sure to keep them away from dry areas of your face such as cheeks.

How to apply a moisturizer to the face and neck:
Follow three easy steps and perfect the art of applying moisturizer:
Step 1
Dab your face with dots of moisturizer onto the specific parts of your face such as forehead, cheeks, nose, chin and neck. If one of these areas is oily than avoid dabbing over that area.
Step 2
Start spreading moisturizer with the help of your hands by using two middle fingers.
Step 3
Apply moisturizer using short but firm strokes with your hands. Use a swirling motion to apply the moisturizer. The best way is to start from your neck then go up to the face and then the forehead.
Now that you know the importance of a moisturizer, make sure to make it a part of the daily skin care regime.
